Steffen Presley In January, 2004 Steffen Presley opened "Song-Haven Studios", specifically designed to accommodate his producing, arranging and keyboard oriented services. Studio A is filled with modern high-quality instruments towards this end. Studio C features our world class grand piano. Located in lush Tujunga, California, it is easily accessible from most of the Los Angeles area. Previously, Steffen owned E Ticket studio in Hollywood, where he arranged, produced, engineered and performed on hundreds of songs for various artists over nearly a 20 year period. At the same time, Steffen was also in demand as a session keyboardist and alto saxophone player, working with many name producers including Kevin Beamish, Greg Hampton, Dito Godwin, Richard Perry and others. He has credits on dozens of albums and CDs, including several major labels. Artists have come to Song-Haven from all over the United States and elsewhere specifically to work with Steffen, including Northern and Southern California, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, Colorado, Massachusetts, New York, South Carolina, the Hawaiin Islands and as far away as Australia! Of course the modern Internet has allowed Steffen to collaborate and deliver product directly to the client, no matter the location which has included songwriters as far away as Japan.

Although he is most accomplished on piano, Hammond organ and synthesizers, Steffen is very proficient and highly experienced on other instruments including alto saxophone; drums, electric guitar and clarinet which are part of many noteworthy recordings. Other highly developed skills include producing; arranging; composing; sound design programming; recording engineering (including mixing and mastering), orchestrating and music notation (layout and printing). As a producer, Steffen's clients have had significant success. Most recently, Tangier Dream had their debut CD chart to number 30 in the UK and in the top 200 in the US. As a composer/song-writer, Steffen had recent success with a jazz-funk instrumental called Bottom's Up, which was downloaded over 80,000 times in 2011. Steffen has also had steady sales of his classical music recordings over many years, including Tchaikovsky's masterpiece, The Nutcracker Suite along with Chopin piano pieces. Steffen also has his own record label, Terraform Records.

In addition to keyboard and sax performance, Steffen mixed and mastered the CD, "Better Days". Our art department handled the CD artwork.

As a musician, Steffen has also had much experience with live performance, recently recording an album and videos with his own Hammond organ based band, 3 Legs on Wheels. Recent projects include a Hammond organ credit on Along Comes a Spider, the latest CD from legendary rocker Alice Cooper, his best selling album since the 1970s. Steffen has also been the keyboardist with Jack Casady and Friends, featuring Jack Casady (Jefferson Airplane, Hot Tuna, Jimi Hendrix, etc.). Wowing audiences coast to coast, the band also included Fee Waybill (The Tubes) on vocals, Matt Abst (Gov't Mule) on drums, Steve Fister (Steppenwolf, etc.) on guitar and Jeff Pehrson. and Jim Brunberg (Box Set), also on vocals, promoting Jack's solo album Dream Factor on Eagle Records. Steffen played Hammond organ and piano on most of the songs for this recording. In addition to the live line-up, the record features Ivan Neville, Jorma Kaukonen, Warren Haynes, Steve Gorman and Paul Barrere.

Just before this, Steffen worked with Texas sensations, rocker Glitter Rose and reggae master, Carlton Pride (son of country star Charlie Pride), performing in concerts and/or recording in our studio and elsewhere.

Steffen began music lessons at age five and began giving public recitals that same year on accordion and piano. In Junior high school, Steffen won a prestigious "Command Performance" award in state competition as a clarinet soloist. In high school, Steffen started playing in bands as an organ player and singer. Some of these bands became very popular in the Central Valley of California where Steffen resided at the time. The Weathervane became the first Modesto band to sign a recording contract (Plamie Records in Los Angeles) and released a record played on the radio all over California. One of these songs composed by Steffen was re-released as recently as 1999 on a compilation album, "Seeds turn to Flowers turn to Dust", presently available on Barnes & Noble. One of the members of The Weathervane, Kevin Beamish is currently a top producer living in Nashville and over the course of his career has produced many of the very top name acts in the music business. While Steffen was a college music major, another influential band of which Steffen was keyboardist, songwriter and lead singer was Strange Laughter. Although only together a short time they were well received at many concerts, opening for many of the big name acts from the San Francisco bay area, then the center of the rock music world. Some of the poster art from these concerts are immortalized in a book called The Art of Rock by Paul D. Grushkin, published by Artabras. In addition, the Weathervane single has become a collectors item, and both bands are featured at Garage Hangover.

After touring the entire United States with various bands, Steffen went to Los Angeles. Soon he joined up with Sabu. This high powered rock band released two major label albums: "Sabu" on Ariola Records and "Sabu II" on MCA International during the time Steffen was with the band. Along with band-members Paul Sabu, Rick Bozzo (Meatloaf), and Dan Holmes, Sabu toured throughout North America, including Canada and Mexico, and was very popular in Europe and Japan. Later several songs from these albums were covered by rock superstars, Kiss. Independently and several years later, Steffen is credited with keyboard performances on solo albums by drummer Peter Criss as well as Vinnie Vincent from Kiss.

Around this time Steffen became keyboardist for movie superstar Ann Margret, which included performances on numerous television shows very popular at the time, including The Dinah Shore Show, Merv Griffin, Mike Douglas, and The Ann Margret Special on CBS. Her only music album, "Ann Margret" - MCA International, on which Steffen is credited as keyboardist, was certified "gold" (one million sales) worldwide. It contained the hit song, "Love Rush". Steffen also played on several recordings for Debbie Jacobs including the song "High On Your Love" by which went to number one on the disco charts. Another song recorded by Debbie Jacobs, "Think I'm Fallin' in Love", was co-written by Steffen.

Also around this time, Steffen took part in what was purported to be the first commercially available digital recording, "The Bee Gee's Music"- Orinda Records , by the Glendale Symphony Orchestra conducted by Carmen Dragon. This was accompanied by a live concert at The Dorothy Chandler Pavillion in Los Angeles.

Looking to expand beyond Rock and Pop music, Steffen later played with bands such as the world beat influenced Ska Cha Cha which entertained audiences throughout Los Angeles with a diverse musical ethnicity; concert tours with Bonnie Bramlett's (of Delaney and Bonny fame) band, "Shake"; and concerts, records and videos (which sold big in Europe) with Bob Fetherolf and The Full Sail Band, as well as concert appearances with Grammy Award winning Thelma Houston (number one record, "Don't Leave Me This Way").

Steffen also got involved with composing music for film and television. This included composing and producing all new music for a set of historic silent films, L. Frank Baum's "The Silent Film Collection of Oz", a four video set from American Home Entertainment. Another credit was composing the score for the HBO movie "Miracle Alley" by Starlight Productions.

With a desire to get more involved with recording, Steffen put together his own studio, fulfilling a need to be able to assist fellow musicians into fully realizing professional recordings within a budget musician's could afford. Offering far more than just a comfortable and classy place to record, Steffen developed his arranging, production and engineering skills to better serve his clients. Also during this time, Steffen released several CDs of his own critically acclaimed original music on Terraform Records.
